PDF The Bible: How Should We Interpret It?
AUTHORS:  Geisler, Dr. Norman
It’s one thing to have an accurate translation, but why is there so much disagreement over what the Bible says? Dr. Geisler gives principles you should use to determine what the Bible means by what it says.

PDF The Bible—The Most Unique Book in the World - Part 1
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
The Bible is not the product of human invention, nor does it contain a mixture of truth and error. It does not require “enlightenment” to understand it properly. Nor is the Bible an incomplete revelation of God. All those are things the Bible is not. Over the next few months the authors will give seven points that are necessary for understanding what the Bible IS!

PDF The Historical Reliability of the New Testament Text - Part 1
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
Christians and skeptics have different views concerning the credibility of the Gospels and the rest of the New Testament. If the New Testament accounts of Jesus’ words are not accurate, how can we know what He really taught? Can we know, beyond a doubt, that we can trust the New Testament? The authors say a resounding yes. Furthermore, they say, you don’t just have to take their word for it.

PDF The Historical Reliability of the New Testament Text - Part 2
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
How does the evidence for the New Testament documents stack up against evidence for other ancient writings? Is there consistency of message within the New Testament documents? If so, what does that show? The authors explain this month.

PDF The Historical Reliability of the New Testament Text - Part 3
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
Can we know the text of the New Testament is reliable? This month the author’s give five more ways to test the data: the external evidence test; corroboration from non-Christian sources; corroboration from archeology; corroboration from enemies’ silence; and corroboration from eyewitnesses.

PDF The Historical Reliability of the New Testament Text - Part 4
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
Drs. Ankerberg and Weldon present the final three facts that clearly indicate that the New Testament is reliable: the dates of authorship; corroboration from critical methods; and confirmation from legal testimony and skeptics.

PDF The Issues Surrounding Gender Sensitive Translations: Do Gender Sensitive Translations Distort Scripture? Not Necessarily
AUTHORS:  Bock, Dr. Darrell
Dr. Bock says, “I hope to help Bible readers sort through the recent controversies tied to the discussion of gender issues in Bible translations. This discussion is not intended as an endorsement of any version. Rather it serves as an explanation of the issues tied to these recent controversies. The goal is that the reader appreciate the issues involved in producing such a translation.”

PDF Alleged Errors in Luke

(With Dr. Erwin Lutzer) Most Christians would agree that the matter of where you will spend eternity is important. Even many non-Christians wonder about the afterlife, or if there is one. This month Drs. Ankerberg and Lutzer begin an examination of the question of eternal security—can one KNOW FOR SURE where he or she will spend eternity?

Holy Spirit

HTML

PDF The Personality and Deity of the Holy Spirit

Inerrancy

HTML

PDF Biblical Inerrancy - Part 1
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
With the Bible coming under increasing attack in the media, movies and even in the Church, this month we begin a lengthy series on the topic of inerrancy. This time: why is the topic important?
Inerrancy

HTML

PDF Biblical Inerrancy - Part 2

PDF Biblical Inerrancy: The Evidence - Part 2
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John

Inerrancy

PDF Biblical Inerrancy: The Evidence - Part 3

PDF The Importance of Inerrancy - Part 1
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
Previously we have seen defined inerrancy and seen the evidence for it. Now, we will document why the subject is important and show the weakness of the alternate position. As one scholar notes, “The evidence that those who surrender the doctrine of inerrancy inevitably move away from orthodoxy is indisputable.”
Inerrancy

HTML

PDF The Importance of Inerrancy - Part 2
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
William Culbertson once said that “The root from which all heresy springs is a faulty view of the inspiration and the inerrancy of the Word of God.” Ankerberg and Weldon explain why he is right.
Inerrancy

HTML

PDF The Importance of Inerrancy - Part 3
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
Those who reject the doctrine of inerrancy (that the Bible is without error) believe there are original errors in certain areas the Bible touches outside doctrine and morality, e.g., in science and history. But, is there any way to know whether or not the original autographs were without error? The authors suggest there is.
Inerrancy

HTML

PDF The Importance of Inerrancy - Part 4
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
The authors explain the weakness of the alternate position held by many: limited inerrancy. They say limited inerrancy is simply meaningless, biblically and practically. In fact, no Scripture ever gives us the right to view any Scripture as less than fully inspired and inerrant.
Jesus

HTML

PDF Jesus Christ: Lord and Savior
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
Jesus Christ is not merely a good man. Nor is He an angel, a preexistent spirit, God’s highest creation. He is not one of many special prophets or manifestations of God, or an eastern guru or avatar. He is the incarnate second person of the Trinity, the prophesied Messiah!
Jesus

HTML

PDF The Deity of Jesus Christ
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
Does Jesus make statements only God would make? Does Jesus have the attributes of deity? Are names, titles and designations of God ascribed to Jesus? Does Jesus do things only God can do? Does the Bible clearly and unequivocally declare that Jesus is God? What did Christian writers in the first four centuries think of Jesus?
Jesus

HTML

PDF There is Only One True God
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
The biblical doctrine of the Trinity is vital to understand because it concerns who God is, which is essential for having a proper realization of the nature of God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. To understand the Trinity is to understand God as He has revealed Himself to be. To misunderstand the Trinity is to fail to understand who God is.
Justification

HTML

PDF The Biblical Doctrine of Justification by Faith
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
Justification is arguably the single most important doctrine in the Bible. It is without question a doctrine that is rejected and opposed by all cults and indeed all religions outside of Christianity.
Justification

HTML

PDF The Doctrine of Justification - Part 1
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
“Justification” is the act of God whereby He forgives the sins of believers and declares them righteous by imputing the obedience and righteousness of Christ to them through faith. This is one issue that is opposed and rejected by all religious groups outside of Christianity. Why does this doctrine continue to divide? What is the Scriptural evidence for it?
Justification

HTML

PDF The Doctrine of Justification - Part 2
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
The authors detail five things that justification is not, then discuss some points that explain what justification is.
Justification

HTML

PDF The Doctrine of Justification--Part 3
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
The authors offer scriptural proof that God is both just and the justifier of those who place their trust in Jesus.
Justification

HTML

PDF What is Justification?
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John
Dr. Erwin Lutzer explains the biblical concept of justification. How good does a person have to be to get into heaven? Since the Bible says we have to be “as perfect as God,” how can anyone ever hope to be that good?

AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Kaiser, Dr. Walter/ Lapide, Dr. Pinchas
How many different “messiahs” were the Jews expecting? Have Christians misunderstood and misapplied certain Old Testament passages to be messianic, when in fact they are not?
Messianic Prophecy

HTML

PDF Do The Messianic Prophecies of the Old Testament Point to Jesus or to Someone Else? - Part 3
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Kaiser, Dr. Walter/ Lapide, Dr. Pinchas
Does Isaiah 9 refer to Jesus, or did it only have an immediate fulfillment in Isaiah’s day?
Messianic Prophecy

HTML

PDF Do The Messianic Prophecies of the Old Testament Point to Jesus or to Someone Else? - Part 4
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Kaiser, Dr. Walter/ Lapide, Dr. Pinchas
Were the statements in Isaiah 53 really fulfilled by Jesus during His life, or is that simply Christian wishful thinking? Is everyone’s individual interpretation of what God says equally valid?
Messianic Prophecy

HTML

PDF Do The Messianic Prophecies of the Old Testament Point to Jesus or to Someone Else? - Part 5
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Kaiser, Dr. Walter/ Lapide, Dr. Pinchas
Are Gentile Christians wrong in asserting Old Testament prophecies, e.g., in Isaiah 53 refer to Jesus? Was Jesus the Messiah only for Gentiles at His first coming? Will He become the Messiah for Jews at His second coming?
Messianic Prophecy

HTML

PDF Do The Messianic Prophecies of the Old Testament Point to Jesus or to Someone Else? - Part 6
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Kaiser, Dr. Walter/ Lapide, Dr. Pinchas
Was Jesus the Jewish Messiah or only the Gentile Messiah? Were Jews responsible for Jesus's death? These and other questions are discussed in this final installment of the debate.

PDF Alternate Critical Theories to the Resurrection
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
Ever since the time of Jesus critics have been attempting to explain the empty tomb on natural grounds. But not one of these theories have ever met with general acceptance among critics, nor do they deal adequately with the historical records of the events surrounding the Resurrection.

AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
Alleged contradiction #3: Do the message of the angels to the women at the tomb and the women’s response conflict in the Gospel accounts? To resolve this problem, first, we will cite Matthew, Mark and Luke’s accounts, noting the critics’ charges for each. After this, we will show why Matthew, Mark and Luke do not contradict one another.

PDF An Examination of the Alleged Contradictions in the Resurrection Narratives - Part 5
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
In this final part of our series on alleged contradictions in the resurrection accounts, we will examine three points: 1. Are the details surrounding the crucifixion contradictory?; 2. Are the details concerning the events that occurred around the time of Jesus’ death contradictory?; and 3. Are the events surrounding Jesus’ burial contradictory?

PDF Does the Evidence For the Resurrection Offer Proof that Jesus Rose From the Dead? - Part 1
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
Jesus made numerous statements about the events surrounding his death. That in itself may not be so remarkable. But when you consider that every single statement came about exactly as he had proclaimed—even events entirely outside his control—then his predictions go way beyond remarkable. They become compelling evidence for the truth of Christianity.
Resurrection

HTML

PDF Does the Evidence For the Resurrection Offer Proof That Jesus Rose from the Dead? - Part 2
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
First of all, how does the death of Jesus offer evidence for the resurrection? Can we even know for sure that Jesus died on the cross? The authors offer ten details in the story that give convincing evidence Jesus did die.

PDF Does the Evidence for the Resurrection Offer Proof that Jesus Rose from the Dead? - Part 3

The final argument presented by the authors is, “Why is the empty tomb compelling evidence for Jesus’ Resurrection?”

PDF Questions Surrounding Jesus’ Resurrection - Part 1
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John
For 2,000 years, the Christian Church has proclaimed that, at the end of His life, Jesus of Nazareth was crucified on a cross, honorably buried, and then on the third day, rose from the dead. But others claim Jesus didn’t die on the cross. He simply passed out and revived in the tomb. Some modern scholars claim Jesus’ body was thrown on a garbage heap and devoured by wild dogs. They say the so-called “Resurrection Appearances” of Jesus were nothing more than hallucinations or “grief visions,” not literal, physical appearances of Jesus Himself. What does an examination of the historical evidence from both secular and Christian sources reveal?
Resurrection

HTML

PDF Questions Surrounding Jesus' Resurrection - Part 2
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John
In this article we will examine four facts regarding the resurrection that even critics will accept:
1. Jesus died by crucifixion; 2. He was buried; 3. His death caused His disciples to despair and lose hope; and 4. The tomb in which Jesus was buried was discovered to be empty just a few days later. Is there historical evidence that establishes these facts?
Resurrection

HTML

PDF Questions Surrounding Jesus' Resurrection - Part 3
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John
Even critics will accept that: 1) The disciples had experiences which they believed were appearances of the risen Jesus; 2) As a result of these experiences, the disciples were transformed from doubters into proud proclaimers of Jesus’ death and resurrection; and 3) As a result of the preaching of the disciples regarding the resurrection, the Church was born and it grew.
Resurrection

HTML

PDF Questions Surrounding Jesus' Resurrection - Part 4
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John
Dr. William Lane Craig suggests there are four facts historians must deal with in regard to the resurrection: 1) the honorable burial of Jesus; 2) the discovery of His empty tomb; 3) the post-mortem appearances of Jesus; and 4) the origin of the disciples’ belief that Jesus was risen from the dead.

PDF The Church as Proof of the Resurrection
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
Could the Christian Church ever have come into existence as a result of what had become, after Jesus’ crucifixion and death, a group of disheartened, frightened, skeptical apostles? Not a chance! Drs. Ankerberg and Weldon explain why the growth of the Church is one of the remarkable proofs that the resurrection of Jesus from the dead did in fact take place.

PDF The Facts Concerning the Resurrection
AUTHORS:  Habermas, Dr. Gary
Dr. Habermas is considered one of the leading experts in the field of historic evidence for the resurrection. Are there “historical facts” that even skeptics will have to admit to? This article gives 12, and explains the conclusion that can be drawn from them.

PDF The Resurrection of Jesus Christ: Was it Physical or Spiritual?
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Habermas, Gary
Some people claim that the Resurrection of Jesus was not a literal, physical resurrection, but some type of “spiritual” resurrection. Dr. Habermas explains why that explanation doesn’t fit the facts or the language of the Resurrection accounts.

PDF Salvation - The Glory of the Gospel
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
Salvation is not achieved by one’s personal righteousness, or one’s good deeds for God, church or people generally. It is not anything one can earn, no matter how hard a person tries. Salvation occurs only when a person’s sin is forgiven by God.

PDF The Good News: The Lord God Shed His Blood for Our Salvation

Drs. Ankerberg and Lutzer look at some of the popular, but wrong, ways to approach salvation.

PDF The Virgin Birth
AUTHORS:  Geisler, Dr. Norman
The virgin birth of Christ is the perennial target of naturalistic Bible critics, who tend to regard it as the result of pagan influence on Christian writers of the second century. These Christians developed the myth in an emulation of stories from Greek mythology. This was the position put forth in the recent Dateline NBC special exploring the “real” story of Christmas.

What should America expect now that the war with Iraq is winding down? What, if any relationship do recent events have to do with biblical prophecy? Gary Kah of Hope for the World provides this editorial view.

PDF The View from Marrs: Did Dr. Don Wilkins Really Lose His Voice on a Taping of The John Ankerberg Show on the New Translations?
AUTHORS:  Ankerberg, Dr. John / Weldon, Dr. John
This question keeps resurfacing. We have made very effort to set the record straight, including sending copies of the raw, unedited footage for the time in question to Texe Marrs and Dr. Joseph Chambers. We have made copies of the videotape footage available to anyone who requested it. Sadly, those in the KJV Only camp have refused to acknowledge the misrepresentations or to issue either a correction or an apology. We have to ask ourselves again, why would they persist in promoting such a lie? Here it is again. Make up your own mind about who is telling the truth!
